I asked both of my parents to describe how a certain meal or food item has played a significant role in their lives. Their responses are in the video above.
I also asked both of my brothers and included their responses below; they preferred to stay off-camera.
Pictured from left to right: My older brother (Devon), my younger brother (Caden), and myself.
Devon’s response: “I think lobster is my favorite food. Apparently, when I was about four, I took one of the cooked lobsters from the dinner table and started pushing it on the swings in the back yard. I don’t really remember that but mom always tells everyone about it. Obviously, lobster is pretty influential on my life. It reminds me of summer, when the whole family would come over and we’d eat dinner on outside. I appreciate those get-togethers more now. They don’t happen as often since everyone is older and busier now, so I appreciate it when we get the opportunity to spend time with the family.”
Caden’s response: “I don’t really know what my favorite food is because I like everything. A memory I have relating to food is baking and decorating a lot of cakes when we were younger, though. All of us fought over what we wanted it to look like but somehow came to an agreement in the end. Dad used to bring all of his CDs up from the basement and we’d usually end up listening to The Beatles or The Outfield while we were baking together. That was a fun time and it makes me appreciate time spent with family.”
